Here's How it works

WE pay

Be the one who opens the door. Well fund it and help you pull it off even if youve never hosted anything in your life.

The application takes about 5 minutes.

You party

Invite your neighbors over for a dinner party, a porch stoop hang, a carne asada.

You know what's best for your neighborhood.

Applications open now. No experience required.

What counts as a party?

Anything that gets neighbors together around the place you share. A backyard dinner. A porch hang. A stoop happy hour. A block party. A park picnic. A dance. A clean-up that ends in tacos. If it brings the people near you into the same place, it counts.

What were not funding:fundraisers, business promos, or events for a specific cause or campaign. Just your block, and the people on it.

Do I need experience?

No the opposite. We especially want people whove never hosted anything like this.

What can I spend it on?

Anything that makes the party happen: food, drinks, supplies, decorations, folding chairs, a permit. Its yours we trust you.

How much work is it, really?

As little as a porch and a bag of chips. A small hang is a completely legitimate party.

Which Neighborhoods?

While were focused on a handful of fast changing LA neighborhoods, we welcome hosts from any area. Not sure if yours counts? Apply anyway!

When's the deadline?

Applications are open now through Sept 28. Selected hosts throw their parties in October.

How do I get paid?

Directly Venmo, PayPal, or a Visa gift card through our partner With Neighbors, usually within a week of being selected.

What if I just want to attend one?

Drop a pin on the map. Well connect you when a party lands near you.

What do you need from me afterward?

One photo (faces optional) and a short story. Lightweight, we promise.

Not ready to host?

Everyone has a role in making our neighborhoods more fun. If you aren't ready to host your neighbors yet, drop a pin below to sign up for updates when a party pops up in your area.

party fever is taking over the city

Something is catching on across Los Angeles. Neighbors are dragging tables into driveways, stringing lights across porches, and turning their blocks into places where the people who live beside each other actually meet.

In a moment of transition and turmoil for our city, a party might be one of the most useful tools we have for knowing the people next door. All it takes is one simple hello.

The Block Party Fund is an open experiment to test out new ways of living side-by-side.

Want to Follow along?

Not yet ready to jump in? Follow the experiment to stay up to date with the research and any new parties taking place in your neighborhood.
